Day Eleven and Twelve, Scamander to
St Helens

The winds came! Lucky for us day Twelve was a designated rest day, so we missed the worst of it.

As we came into finish our paddle across St Helen's, Georges Bay, we had a rather freaky encounter with some very large sting rays. What was freaky about it was that one of them on finding itself caught between us and some very shallow water, turned and rushed the kayaks, all the while lashing out with its tail.

We had a very good interview with the Examiner on the foreshore at St Helens when we finished our paddle. The reporter wrote a very nice article about us and took a great shot of us with our now slightly battle weary kayaks in the foreground.

Our fundraising efforts had a big boost as we set up outside the Super IGA store in St Helens. Tourist and locals alike dug deep and donated a whopping $900!!! making this the most generous town to date. Thank you very much for your support you are all legends!

We wish to make a special mention of a young girl called Celeste – who we met at St Helens – for her generosity in buying a raffle ticket and donating some coins. Celeste, who lives with Cerebral Palsy, is cared for by her brother and family.
