Day 13, St Helens to Deep Creek

We set off from the foreshore at St Helens on a beautiful bright sunny morning, paddling first through the calm waters of Georges Bay and then around to Binalong Bay past the huge orange granite boulders of Humbug Point. After a stop over on Binalong's perfect white sandy beach (to fix Bens dodgy rudder and collect some donations) we made for Policeman's Point.

When we got to Policeman's Point we were met by Chris' Mum and Dad along with his two kids. Chris' Dad had been busy fixing Chris' paddle (he had borrowed his wife's paddle for the first part of this leg). Equipped, with a hopefully fixed paddle, Chris along with Ben and Charles made for Picnic Rocks. On the way there was another uplifting encounter with a large pod of dolphins, this pod seemed to have a large number of young dolphins, maybe out for a swim with their mums?

After paddling past the very impressive Eddystone Lighthouse, the final landing point was in sight, but the weather had one last trick up it's sleeve as for the last 3kms the wind suddenly changed from a following wind to a very blustery headwind.

In the end we didn't land at Picnic Rocks as there was basically nothing there, so we made camp just up the coast at Deep Creek. After what turned out to be a very tough paddle, we were grateful for the company of some very generous and helpful fishermen / divers, who even shared some of their catch with us (see photo below).

Charles with Karl and his son. Karl generously gave us a nice cray and some wine.

A very tired Ben toasting passing the half-way mark of our 1000km journey.
