Day 1 – Marrawah to Smithton

After a early start from our accommodation at Tall Timbers in Smithton it was off Marrawah to commence the 2011 event.

Accompanied by a small group of supporters Charles started his 51km run just after 7 am. Following the Bass Highway back past Redpa, Togari and Christmas Hills he arrived in Smithton just after midday. For 16 kms of the trip Teresa kept him company on the road, which Charles said really helped him out as the last part of the run was "pretty tuff".

Not long after finishing the run Charles joined the rest of his support crew in-front of the Smithton IGA (for the second day in a row), where once again they were impressed with the generosity of those who stopped of to have a chat and make a donation. At least $1,000 dollars was raised over the two days of collecting, which is a fantastic start.

We would especially like to thank Sue and George – George is the President of Cerebral Palsy Tasmania), who made the long trip up from Hobart to spend New Years Eve with us at Tall Timbers.

We had a delightful time during our few nights stay at Tall Timbers and will certainly be recommending it to anyone who is travelling to this beautiful part of Tasmania.

IGA have kindly donated $4,000 worth of shopping vouchers. Each $100 vouchers will be raffled and drawn on site at the end of every day of fundraising outside the IGA stores we will be passing during the trip.

The Geary family, who have been long time friends of Charles and Teresa, drove up from Hobart to show their support.
