Day Seven, Swansea to Coles Bay
While today was to be a rest day in effect, as we only need to paddle around 17-18kms across from Swansea to Coles Bay, things got off to a rather shaky start due to a 'little hick-up' we encountered when we arrived at our very kindly supplied shack accommodation... the water pump was on the blink and so much of our morning was lost as Charles arranged for a new pump -- so we can have a much needed shower, etc!
The paddle across the bay started of in quiet nice conditions, however due to our late start we caught the sea breeze at around 2pm, this got up to well over 40kms/hr so the second half of the paddle was a bit of slog.
The weather has continued to be fantastic and so there was a large group of people who meet us on the beach at Coles Bay. With Ben's brother and his family and friends coming out to meet, which made for quiet a spectical as we came into the beach.
The issue of the steering system now has a good ending, as Simon Stubbs from the Freycinet Paddle (who has also kindly donated one of our raffle prizes), very kindly supplied us with some cabling and heat shrink to make a proper repair of the boats possible -- thanks heaps mate!
